My dad called me this afternoon and told me he had "good news". I don't know about you but I can always use some good news in the middle of the afternoon, especially when it's wet, hot, and humid outside!
His "good news" was a letter from the VA Hospital informing him that his recent colonoscopy came back showing "NO SIGNS OF CANCER"!! Thank you, JESUS!!! God is so good to us!!
On to other news, last night/early this morning we had a incredible lightening and thunder storm. This storm woke That Other Kid, and it took me about 45 minutes to get him settled and back to sleep. About 45 minutes later he comes running, and crying into my room saying he had a "terrible nightmare". At this point all I wanted to do was sleep, so I said climb into bed with me and daddy and go back to sleep. Nothing bad can happen when you are with mom, ya know? I finally got him to sleep (of course he was crushing my arm), and we slept about another hour!!!
Since I didn't get enough sleep last night I have been tired all day and really didn't want to do anything today or tonight, but I managed to do my 30 Day Shred DVD, Day 5 of Level 3!! DH was shocked that I pushed through it...as tired as I was he figured I would bail....NO WAY!! I'm doing so good and I don't want to quit!!
I did my WiiFit Hula, too....not too good...not even 1300 spins and I almost dropped it 2 times, but I did make it through the whole 6 minutes.
Ya know, when I don't drink enough water throughout the day, I can really tell it now. My joints hurt during my exercise and I get a "stitch" in my side during the Hula, that absolutely makes me want to stop and cry! Just one more reason to drink more water!!
I'm doing pretty good with the "dairy challenge" this week. Yesterday I had all 3 servings....today one 2 servings, unless I decide to go get a "dairy" snack in a few minutes...not sure about that one, though.
Guess that's all for tonight...gonna go get some sleep!! I pray we don't have the storms tonight like last night!

I'm Back!!
Just in case you were wondering, I am still alive!...just trying to regroup from my trip to Kansas. Last Monday, That Other Kid and I traveled through Oklahoma's snow and ice storm to make it up to Kansas for my dad's colon reattachment surgery that was scheduled for Tuesday. (It went better than even the surgeon expected, btw.) I didn't really have too many problems, just had to slow way down....and drive with wiper blades that, unbeknownst to me, needed to be replaced! I found out soon enough when my windows started icing over and the wiper blades kept missing half the window!
Anywho, I made it safe and sound, with only about 1 hour delay. The weather was only bad in through OKC and surrounding area, so it was manageable. I took my parents to Long John's Silver for dinner, since that is where they wanted to go! As a kid that was a big night out, to go to Long John's, so away we went. By 8:30, which is when we were done eating, the streets in Wichita were getting slick and the windshield was starting to ice up, so my mom scraped the windshield and then we went back to their home.
My family has lived in North Texas now for 13 years and when it ices and snows, we just stay home. NO ONE goes anywhere! Not so in Kansas...it's just part of winter for them. It has to be a blizzard for them to stay home or close something, so it really surprised them that I didn't own an ice scraper! They loaned me one of theirs, so I could scrape my windows to go over to my brother's house and for the morning when dad was having surgery.
When we were leaving...That Other Kid informed me that "old people are awesome!" I had to agree, but wanted to know why he thought so. His reply was, "cuz they have ice scrapers and let us use them when it is icy outside!" I just thought that was a hilarious observation and soooo true!
So....the 2 lessons for the week...don't go to Kansas in the winter without an ice scraper and "old people are awesome"!

No Wonder I Have No Traffic on My Blog
I apparently never write here anymore....I can't believe it's been over a week since I posted something. I guess that just goes to show you how boring, mundane and not exciting my life has been this past week.
I've been going to the gym as often as I can. I went 3 times last week, and I'm going to try for 4 or maybe even 5 this week. I have been doing pretty well with watching my food intake and it has paid off, with 2 more pounds missing from this "obese" body of mine. That is what the doctor calls it, and I have to say I agree. Anyone who needs to lose 75 pounds just to get within the top of her weight range is definitely "obese".
I did a sleep study Friday night to try to determine why I am always tired....no matter how much sleep I get. They hooked me up to 22 wires and watched me sleep. How boring for this poor lady! I felt sorry for her, just sitting there all night long watching these 2 tv monitors waiting for me to do something exciting! I am looking forward to the results of the test, which I will get on October 1! The sleep study was nice in that I got to sleep in bed all by myself with no interuptions except for when I had to go the bathroom. Of course, they wanted me to go to sleep at like 10 p.m. and wake up at 5 a.m. which was a big drag....not exactly my normal hours, but oh well!
I walked on the treadmill and the elipitical machine at the gym and went 1.66 miles today. That is, so far, the most I have done since I started exercising again. But I need to bump it up....my soon to be 71 year old dad, who just underwent colon cancer surgery in July, he started back to walking a couple of weeks ago and he walked 2 miles Sunday.....so what is my problem??? Don't answer that! I already know....I'm FAT!!! He's not!!! So maybe by the end of the week I'll be able to do 2 miles....I also need to add some weights to my routine, but I just haven't done it yet. This is a process and I'm still working out the kinks!
Ok...so I'm rambled enough for now and I need to go to bed, so I'll try to write more often this week so maybe somebody will come read about what's going on in my little world. Hope you have a good week!

New Update on Dad
I talked to my dad tonight and he is doing good. He went to the oncologist that has been treating him for the cancer, and he has to undergo another round of Chemo. This round starts this coming Tuesday and will last a total of 8 weeks. He will go in on Tuesday, get the treatment and come home with the chemo bag. He will wear it till Thursday then go in and get it removed. The following week he will have a break, then he will repeat the process 3 more times. After this round of chemo he will have another surgery and hopefully, he will be done. I guess we will know more in a couple of months. This takes us into the first part of November, so I'm hoping that he will be done with this before the Thanksgiving/Christmas season.
He is in good spirits even though we thought he was already done with it all. He started walking again, and today he walked a mile at the gym, so I need to start increasing my time so I can say I walked more than my dad, who will be 71 years young in just a couple of weeks!

Back In the Saddle
Well here I am....back in the saddle of blogging. Sorry that it's been sooooo long since I've been around. I guess having my dad's colon cancer surgery to deal with then immediately come home and celebrate That Kid's 18th birthday with his big party, then going to Beth Moore's Satellite Seminar, then to a baseball game/Mercy Me concert, 2 doctor's appointments in 1 day, trying to register That Kid for Dual credit classes twice (don't ask!!)...and on and on it goes has been a little more than my mental faculties could deal with.
This week I kind of went on a little mental vacation in my living room not really doing much of anything that didn't absolutely HAVE to be done. I barely even checked other people's blogs....I was sooooo out of it. Not to mention I must have caught a lovely summer cold from somewhere in all my adventures of the past few weeks, because I have been blowing green snot and feeling weak and tired regardless of how much sleep I've gotten during the night!
Anywhoooo, my dad is home from the hospital as of this past Wednesday evening. From the couple of times I have talked to him since he has been home it sounds like he is doing good. I'm trying to arrange a quick trip up there, but it looks like that isn't going to work out...too much going on and too little time. Oh well, maybe I can work it out soon. He has an in-home nurse that is coming to help out for a couple of weeks so that will be a big help to my mom as she is taking care of my niece and nephew again.
That Kid's party was a BIG success and a lot of fun. We rented a party boat and went out on the lake for 4 hours. The weather was HOT, just as you would expect for a late July night, so all the party guests swam, and swam, and swam with some intermittent eating and just hanging out! Everyone seemed to have a good time and That Kid even told me "thanks for throwing it", which for him to say anything about it told me he appreciated it and had fun. He's just not the mushy, gushy type:) Here's a picture of him just as the party is starting!

Here is a picture of him the night after his party .... he lost a "titty twister" dare and had to shave his head! I was shocked he actually did it...his hair has always been one of his highlights of his features. Oh well it's growing back already!

Well that's about it for tonight....but as I was sitting here I realized that I have been blogging for just over a year now. My first post was August 4, 2007! and I can gladly say I'm thrilled that I started this....it has been fun and fulfilling. I'm looking forward to expanding it some this next year so that I can actually start getting more readers and maybe even start making some money from it. Thanks for joining me in my ride!!!

Traveling Again
Tomorrow morning I will get up and finish packing to leave AGAIN to go to Wichita. Last week I was there and it took me 7 hours to drive a 5 1/2 hour trip with That Other Kid. Tomorrow I hope and pray it doesn't take that long! That stretch of highway gets OLD real fast! DH is, at this point, planning to go with us this time so I probably won't be driving more than a few hours of the trip which is nice, but I get bored even faster when I'm not driving so I may be the one saying "are we there yet?" this time. Last week we weren't even out of Texas when I started hearing it...and I know that it will not be a pleasant trip if this starts up so fast this week.
Dad's surgery is planned for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday and I will try to write an update as soon as I have something to report. Please pray for the doctors, the family, and my dad as we undergo a very crucial surgery. According to the report that my dad was given the cancer mass in the colon is smaller than it was in January, but it is still quiet large and there are many nerves that can be injured if the surgeons make mistakes. Sooooo....we are praying for NO mistakes and the surgery go smoothly.
After surgery Wendesday I have to rush right back home as I have That Kid's 18th birthday party/bash planned for Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Please pray for safe travel back home. I'm sure I will be tired and emotionally wrung out, but I want to make sure the party goes as planned.
I probably won't be back on here till Friday afternoon....so hope you have a good week!

Quick Update for Dad
His surgery has been postponed till next week, the 30th to be exact.
I'm on my way back home today so I can at least see my 'baby' on the day of his 18th birthday! I'm at the local health club...the only place around that has WiFi! and I'm heading back to my brother's house to load up and head back, so I can do it all over again next week...but next week the way everyone's schedule is I will only be able to be here for the day of the surgery...then I have to head right back home for That Kid's birthday party that I so carefully planned for RIGHT AFTER the surgery....I hope that surgeon is having a nice vacation, cuz he's ruining all my carefully planned out plans!
Thanks for your continued prayers! I'll need them next week for sure.

Making Preparations
I'm sitting in my living room watching That Other Kid dig through a HUGE bucket of Batman/Starwars/Superman toys from That Kid's childhood. See I'm too cheap to go out and buy him his own toys, I'm making him play with toys from the mid-90's when That Kid was a little boy! No, really why go buy some more junk to clutter the toy room/living room and every other room in the house when these were just sitting out in the garage taking up space we no longer have???
My purpose in sitting here this afternoon was originally to start making some more distinct and final plans for That Kid's 18th birthday party. I'm leaving town for a week right before the party and need to make sure I have everything planned and finalized before I leave. It's hard to concentrate on planning a huge bang-up birthday party while sitting in a hospital room watching your 70 year old dad recover from colon cancer surgery.
So.... I have 1 week and 1 1/2 days left to plan!!! I pretty much have the major things planned, but I still need to do some shopping for the accessory things; like party plates, decorations, and FOOD and DRINKS for a bunch of people, mostly teenagers that like to EAT!! Well I better get busy....the days a wastin' away!!

A Quick Update
Just a quick update tonight/this morning as I get ready to leave to go visit mom and dad in the morning. I still have laundry to finish, dishes to do, pet food and medicine to get ready, and a den to clean up so if the landlords come in they don't freak!
Dad's radiation is going well. I'm looking forward to seeing him and make sure for myself! My niece turns 4 this weekend, so we get to celebrate with the family. That Other Kid is looking forward to spending time with his cousins and playing non-stop with kids for the next few days.
Meanwhile, dh and That Kid are in Utah for a USA hockey official developmental camp. DH is taking a working vacation staying a Marriott hotel in a King size bed by himself instead of sharing a queen size bed with me and sometimes That Other Kid, while That Kid will be on ice about 20 hours over the next 3 days and being evaluated so that he can advance in the ranks of officating.
It looks to be a good weekend!! Hope yours is good....and if I get bored maybe I'll check in.

Busy Week....
but then again what week is not busy these days, huh? Anyway, i have been having fun reading all the comments from the people who have entered my Bloggy Contest. It has been a lot of fun to see the traffic on my site pick WAY UP, too. Up till this week I have been running about 50 - 75 views a week. This week I've been running at least that many per day! It has been exciting for me.... so thanks for stopping by if you are new and I hope you'll keep coming back after today.
So if you are here and you haven't commented on my little contest please do so today. I'll choose a winner tonight, late....before I go to bed, so hurry and enter....cuz don't we all need to learn to be happy??!!
Ok....so on to other news of the week. That Other Kid went to his first Karate class Tuesday...and that was fun! He did well for his first class, at least I thought he did. He was his normal, bouncy, excited self and was eager to try every move the instructor asked him to make. I think it went well...My goal for sending him this class is to help him learn a little self-control. Sometimes I think he is beyond all self-control and I worry about his future and Mine for that matter...Like will I lose it because he is acting sooooo bad! Instructor said he did well for first class and gave him a creed to practice at home...which we haven't done yet. Basically, it says he's not gonna beat the cr*p out of everyone in the house, using what he learns in class!!
This week was another first for That Kid. He had a REAL JOB interview. He already has a job as an Ice Hockey Official, but the summer time is sloooooooow for him, as there are not many games being played, so there are not many games being reffed, yo get the idea? Anyway, he has kind of gotten used to receiving LARGE paychecks in the mail and since he won't during the summer he decided he wanted to get a job for the summer. The gym we go to had a sign on the door saying they were taking applications for the summer, so he applied on-line and had his first interview yesterday. It must have went well-- he has a follow-up interview Monday afternoon. The position he applied for is right up his alley -- working with kids in their summer camps, playing various sports, games, etc. He has experience from the PE class he has been assisting with for the past 2 years, so he is qualified and actually VERY good at this! He doesn't like to admit it but he is gifted around kids....it is an area God has blessed him in and I am excited to see how God uses him this summer in this job....Of course, there is the 2nd interview, so pray for that to go well if this is the job for him this summer.
My dad went and had another colon scope this week to check the progress of the cancer and to prepare for radiation. (Radiation starts Monday morning) and everything seems to be going well. He will do a radiation treatment for 5 minutes a day, 5 days a week for 5 weeks.....gosh that's a lot of 5's, huh? After his radiation treatment he will go over to the VA Hospital and get a chemo treatment.....so this is going to be a hardcore attack. Please pray that he will continue to have NO side effects and he will do well with all this medication.
I just got an email from him and he is walking 2 miles a day at he local rec center that my brother works at. Exercise and getting out of the house --- does a cancer patient good! Add to that a bunch of prayers and you can't go wrong! Thanks for all your love and prayers.....

Dad and the Radiation Doctor
Got an email tonight from my mom...dad has an appointment with the doctor that will order his radiation treatments Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. Please pray for a favorable report and quick execution of the treatments to begin....I want this colon cancer to be past us and I'm sure he does too!

Doctor's Appointments
I talked to mom this evening after settling down with That Other Kid, to check on dad's doctor's appointment. PRAISE GOD....the tumor has NOTTTTT, I repeat has Not spread!! It is still contained within his colon. They couldn't really tell if is smaller or not without going in and doing another internal search, which they didn't want to do because of the sensitivity of it after 8 weeks of chemo, but the fact that it has not spread is a BIG PLUS!!
He has to meet with the radiation specialist ASAP, which they are waiting for a call from his office. They will probably hear from him tomorrow and meet with him to start radiation treatments. Apparently they want this started ASAP, so hopefully by Monday. They will be doing the radiation treatments in the best hospital in their town, instead of the VA hospital, which makes me feel so much better! Thank you Jesus, for taking care of my dad!!! and thank you for praying....
Another doctor appointment had positive results today! That Other Kid had a food challenge for Soy products.....and he PASSED with flying colors!! We now get to add WHEAT, PEANUTS, and SOY into his previously limited diet....He can have soooooo many new foods, I'm just giddy!!! He is still highly allergic to milk/dairy, and eggs, but OMG he can have soooooo many foods now, that he couldn't just 6 weeks ago!!! I'm sooooo happy for him! Now I just need to get him to accept the fact that he can have more than 6 food items!!
Tomorrow I go to the ENT to see what is wrong with me and my sinus cavities....so I don't spend the next 9 months sick....please pray it is a successful visit! and last but not least That Kid will go to the orthopeadic surgeon tomorrow afternoon to find out what is wrong with his elbow....it has been hurting and swollen for about 6 weeks, so it is time to get it checked....I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks for all your prayers....I appreciate each and every one of you.

Changes
Changes they are a happenin'! In case you haven't noticed I changed the design/pattern of my blog page. It's spring ya know and I just felt the need to change the looks of my front page. Let me know if you like it...
I've also added Google Adsense to the blog to try to earn a couple of bucks...sometimes I just get the urge to have "my" money... not "family/our" money. Call me selfish if you must, but I wanta see if I can earn some money of my own.
DeeDee tagged everyone for a meme today. It is for us to name 6 unimportant things about ourselves....I said, "gosh only 6! this might take me a while to narrow them down". Anywhoooo, here are my 6 unimportant things in no particular order.
6. I am a terrible housekeeper, although as a kid/teenager I was the one who cleaned the house, cuz I hated the fact that it was always a mess.
5. I am nosey. I always want to know everything about everyone. Although I am pretty private about sharing about my own life.
4. I love taking pictures of "stuff" although I don't do anything with the pictures once I take the pictures....
3. I sit on my couch "watching" local news for an average of an hour and a half a night, but if you ask me anything about what is going on in the news locally I probably couldn't tell you more than 2 or 3 things.
2. That Other Kid beats me every time when we play Tennis on the Wii. I beat him "almost" every time when we Bowl.
1. When I was a kid, I was in LOVE with the BeeGees.
Now aren't you glad I shared????
If you wanta share all your "unimportant facts" consider yourself tagged. Please leave a comment and let me know if you decide to play!
Oh...please pray for my dad and his doctor tomorrow afternoon, as he finds out the next step in his Chemo and Radiation treatments. He has gone through 8 weeks of Chemo and hasn't had any problems so keep those prayers coming! Radiation/Chemo combined is the next step according to what he was told in the beginning. I'll let you know tomorrow night after I hear from my mom and dad.
Thanks....for everything!

Another Hockey Player
This morning started That Other Kid's hockey career....beginning hockey classes, called Pre Hockey. He was supposed to wear a hockey helmet and hockey skates. He was decked out and sooooo proud of himself. However, when he got on the ice he discovered that it wasn't much different than his "skate school" classes, but there were other kids on the ice with hockey sticks, and soft pucks actually passing the puck and skating like "real" hockey players. This frustrated him since this is what he wanted to be doing....I tried to appease him by telling him he had to work really hard and learn to skate faster so he would be able to "play hockey" with the other kids....maybe next semester, which starts in June!
In other news...I talked to my dad this morning and he had just finished walking 1 1/2 miles at the local rec center....He has done this ALL week and said he felt great. By the way, this is more than I have walked the WHOLE month of March, thankyouverymuch. I thought he was supposed to be the sick one.
He will go in and try to start his last week of chemo on Monday....please pray that his white blood counts are high enough this week that he can complete this last week. He already has an appointment scheduled for another MRI on the 9th and a doctor's appointment to discuss the next stage on the 10th. Please keep these dates in your prayers.
I started my new immune boosters today....thanks to Melissa for telling me about them! I will keep you posted as to how I feel over the next couple of weeks.
Well I'm tired...since I have gone/busy for the past 3 days and I'm still not 100% I better get to bed so I can continue to recouperate from this latest illness.
Thanks for visiting and listening to me babble! Have a great night!

My Trip to Kansas
I'm sitting in my brother's living room, (on the wireless network they couldn't figure out how to operate, thankyouverymuch) watching my niece and That Other Kid competing to see who can draw the best pictures, numbers, letters and waiting for a load of laundry to finish drying so I can get That Other Kid dressed. It is a relaxing COLD day in Kansas, and it has been a good visit for me.
That Other Kid is going to preschool with my niece this afternoon and I'm going to take my dad up to the VA Hospital again for an injection to help raise his White Blood Count. He had to go in to give blood yesterday morning to check his counts and they were low, so he has to go up and get injections all week in addition to taking an antibiotic to ward off infections. He didn't want to bother me, but I came to Kansas to spend time with him and help him out, in addition to checking up on him. So I took him yesterday and I'll probably do it again tomorrow before I hit the road to head back to the Lone Star State, to my dh and teenager! This is just one thing I can do to feel like I am part of his treatment and recovery from this yucky cancer he is suffering from.
My purpose in coming to Kansas this week was to check up on dad and see for myself how he is doing....and he's doing ok, I think. It seems to me he has aged, but he is 70 so I guess he is getting older, huh? But he looks pretty much normal...he sits around alot, and that is strange for me to see. He was a manual laborer his whole adult life, so sitting around just wasn't in his normal routine. Even after he retired he started a little side business of wood crafts, so he was always busy. Now he sits....he just doesn't have much energy. My brother and I are going to purchase him a guest membership to the local rec center so he can get out and "do" something. I'm afraid he feels worthless now, since he doesn't have anything "productive" to do.
What do people do all day when they get this awful disease and they don't have the energy to do their normal things??? I feel I need to help him have a purpose to fight the cancer....I want him to live a longer, more productive life!
Thanks for your continued prayers. I'll be home tomorrow night...

Talked To Dad....
Before cancer was found in my dad this statement would have been something I would have only said on holidays, birthdays and other special occasions. Now that cancer has been found I am trying to take communication with them a lot more seriously and I want to value the time I have with them, even if it is a few minutes on the phone a couple of times a week.
So, anyway I called my parents this afternoon to check on my dad and he seems to be doing well. He said he has not had any of the bad side effects that they told him to expect. No hair loss, no weakness, no diarrhea....so all is well so far. Week 3 starts tomorrow with the chemo treatments. This will be round 2, as it goes 1 week on, 1 week off. I will be traveling to Kansas for a few days next week on his off week, so I can see for myself how he is doing.
So now it is really time to ensure that I DON'T GET SICK....my dad can't have visitors who are sick....so it is imperative that I don't get sick. I MUST STAY HEALTHY...so lot's of vitamin C and lots of handwashing!! So far, so good, I just feel kind of tired and a little achey. Maybe it's just cuz I have been taking care of everyone else for the past week and I'm worn out.....
Keep praying!!! and I'll keep you posted!
