Tuning Up in June

I've been floundering all year. Looking for ways to lose weight, exercise consistently, eat right, etc. It just hasn't been happening...all I know is I truly want to do right but "something" hasn't clicked for me and I haven't done it.

I am determined that June is gonna be my month. I am on medication to help my thyroid levels. I am taking a vitamin D supplement to help my levels on that too. Medically speaking there is no reason I can't get my act together so now it's time to get busy with the weight loss. The year is half over and I don't want to waste the whole year, continuing to gain weight.

Cue, The Shrinking Jeans ladies!! They always know when to start a new challenge and get my booty moving again! So I'm participating in the June Tune Up with the Sisterhood and I'm gonna give this body a tune up! And with all good challenges they are even offering ways to get my exercise in with 3 exercises to do most every day of the month!

This particular challenge is a partners challenge...meaning we team up with someone and we tackle this booger together! My partner is Jen and I'm so excited to be doing this with her! We have been chatting a lot and are becoming great friends but we both need to lose some weight and stop making excuses! Together we are gonna tackle this challenge with all the gusto we can muster...

Our team name is the Kick A$$ WIPs (cuz we are both a Work in Progress). I even have goals for this challenge....GO ME!!

1) EXERCISE EVERY DAY!! Between the June Tone Up, and the beginning of the Komen 3 Day training

and using the Wii and XBox I think I have this one under control.

2) NO SODAS!! 'nuff said...

3) TRACK MY FOOD EVERY DAY, EVERY BITE!! I've been pretty hit and miss with this and I'm sure it has hurt me. I'm on MyFitnessPal with an app on my phone so really I should not have any excuses!

4) EAT A SALAD EVERY DAY!! I'm not a big veggie eater so salads are about the only veggies I normally eat but they have been sporatic. This must change....(I had a salad for dinner!! And WATER!)

That takes care of my goals for the month...as Jen said it's only 30 days! I can do it!! I can't wait to see the changes that happen in these 30 days!

btw, my starting weight for this challenge: 207
Not something I'm proud of but honestly I'm not shocked. More like pissed!!

Final for ShrinkYoSelf 2012

Well what can I say? Not much to say really..,I didn't follow through AGAIN and once again I didn't meet my goals. I did lose 6.2 pounds over the past 2 months but really I should have lost 15 to 20. I'm disappointed but I'm not beating myself up (at least I'm trying not to!)

I have been sick for the past 3 weeks which limited my physical activity. It also made me too tired to really care. I'm getting back to "normal", and I've already started working toward getting back into the exercise routine. I've joined a bunch of my friends in a new challenge to lift weights and workout together. I did my first workout last night and I am still sore 24 hrs later! I guess that means I need this!

Even though this is the final weigh in for this challenge I'm sure the wonderful ladies at Shrinking Jeans will have a new one set up soon. I plan to be on board for that one. Hopefully I will do better next time!

Btw, thanks for all the wonderful comments on my post a couple of days ago. Made me realize that people really are out there listening!

Much love to all!

Bursting Into Summer

It's Wednesday and that means weigh in time with the 'hood. For the first time in a really long time I did not want to get on the scales. Last night while wearing a pair of capris that I have worn losely for sometime I noticed they were pretty snug. So this morning I knew in my heart that I would not like seeing the number on the scale but I figured I couldn't ignore it forever so I hopped on and looked down.

Yep, pretty much what I thought! I started this challenge at 194.6 and this morning I saw the number on the scale that I keep telling myself I will NEVER see AGAIN! You guessed it:

200 pounds!!

I am NOT proud of this. I am not happy about this. In fact I'm pretty stinkin' upset about it. NOw the true test of just how upset I am will be in the results it pushes me to make. For example will I stop drinking soda again? Will I go back on the low glycemic index diet plan that I continue to have great success with? Will I eat 5 servings of fruits and veggies daily?

Only time will tell but I can tell you that I am tired of feeling this way. I also know that if Ii will just do the things I need to do the weight will come off and it will stay off!

For the challenge this past week we were supposed to try something new....um...I walked 4.21 miles in the pouring down rain on Saturday morning at 5:30 AM for my Komen 3 Day Training!! That is definitely something new for me! Then on Sunday I turned around and walked nearly 12 miles starting once again at 5 AM!! Definitely new things for me! Nothing compared to my running friends like Kirsten, Tiffany, Lisa, Christy, Brooke, Bari and ChristieO who regularly RUN WAY more than that but for me it was new and I'm counting it! I also bought a fruit called a pluot. I haven't tried it yet but it looks interesting -- kind of like a plum??

Ok... this week's challenge is to take deep breaths!! Um...yeah, I think I need to do lots of this! So I will be doing this A LOT this week! as long as I don't get too stressed out to remember to do it that is!

Ok...so that is all from me this week. Hope you have had better success than I have in this challenge and if you haven't please let me know so we can help each other out, k?

Disappointment

I'm laying in my living room floor with an ice pack on my quadricep. I have been stretching, icing, heating and stretching more! I have taken advil, eaten bananas, and tried to relax and nothing seems to be helping. I'm so frustrated!
Last week while doing the boot camp workouts I noticed my quads seemed really tight so I spent extra time stretching them. I did the workout Monday and was sore but felt great! I felt like I had challenged myself and I was proud of the fact that I had accomplished something challenging. I was still pretty sore on Wednesday but went ahead with the workout! The sprints were pretty slow, even for me but I had pushed myself and I got the heart rate up which is what the purpose of the sprints were. I was gone all day Friday and busy again on Saturday so I didn't get the workout done when I wanted but I had noticed my quads were pretty tight so I figured an extra day off would probably be ok. Sunday evening I was a little stiff but figured once I got moving I would be ok. I got That Other Kid to bed and dressed to start my boot camp workout. I devided to do 10 minutes step aerobics for my "warmup" walk. Then I told hubby that I was doing the sprints outside and he was concerned about me being out in the dark so he came out to make sure I was safe. I stretched for a few seconds and pushed my run keeper app to start and took off! After 10 seconds bothy quads cramped up to the point of tears! I couldn't move! I just stood there screaming in pain! Hubby helped me back in the house where he literally lifted my legs onto the ottoman so I could wait for heat to be applied. I stretched, heated, iced, took advil, ate a banana, and drank a bunch of water. 45 minutes later I could walk by myself!

It's been 26 hrs with repeated icings, stretching, heatings, advil, and tlc and I still hurt when I walk very much!

I so wanted to do boot camp with all the ladies at Shrinking Jeans but now I am sidelined and don't know how to make my quads work well enough to do what they need to do.

Hubby suggested a deep muscle massage and if they don't feel better by tomorrow evening I guess I will be making an appointment for a massage. I may be sidelined for awhile because if this but I'm not quitting! I will complete the 6 week boot camp!! I want this and will get it!!

Bursting Into Summer (or not!)

It's time for weigh in Wednesday and I kind of hoping against all odds that the weekend food fest that I had wouldn't hurt me too much BUT I guess it was just too much to hope for. So let's get the ugly part of this post over with so we can go on to the better things of life, ok?

Last week: 194.6
This week: 195.2

Yes, I know in the big scheme of things that a gain of .5 is not that bad but u think the thing that bugs me so much about it is I once again let circumstances dictate my food choices! My allergies are incredibly bad right now and instead of eating as I should I told myself that it was ok to eat crap because I didn't feel good. Bottom line is right now I can't really taste anything so I should be eating the good for me stuff since I can't really taste the crap food! Instead I ate junk and kept wanting more and more!

But today is a new day and I'm going to stick with my low glycemic index foods. I know following this plan I can lose weight and a decent amount of it!
So expect to see a lower number on next weeks weigh in post!

I did the boot camp workout Monday and honestly I am still sore from it but I need to do today's now! I figure if I do it today even though I am sore by Friday I will feel pretty good. Besides it felt great to push myself like that!

Hydration was the challenge for the week and that wasn't a problem for me as I usually drink around 100 oz a day. Monday I think I drank about 130 oz and based on how hot/humid it is today I'm sure I will do the same or more today.

This weeks challenge is breakfast! This one is a bit more challenging for me but as long as I stick to the LGI plan I have this one under control too.

Hope everyone has had a great start to the challenge and has a good week!
