A Menu!! A Real Life Menu

The Shrinking Kitchen

Welcome to my very first edition of writing out a Menu! Everyone has been encouraging me to write out a menu for sometime and I always make some excuse. I decided to follow instructions and do what they asked me to do cuz this week I'm trying to do things differently! I finished planning school lessons thru the end of May (we homeschool year round with periodic breaks for mom to regroup!) and I decided since I was planning lessons maybe I should plan meals, too! Maybe being organized will help me accomplish more! I can only hope, right?!!

So here are dinner meals...

Sunday- spaghetti, salad, bread
Monday- chicken Parmesan, spaghetti, salad
Tuesday- grilled chicken breast, salad, whole wheat roll
Wednesday- eat out meal
Thursday- turkey Parmesan (cooking light), salad, whole wheat roll
Friday-chicken tacos, chips
Saturday- leftovers

Lunch around here is pretty simple - sandwiches or tacos and I'm going to try to include fruit or some carrots in it too.

Breakfast is always the same - Greek yogurt w/apple and almonds for me and That Other Kid eats bread and a couple of slices of bacon for protein.

Snacks - nuts, fruit, and hopefully the cookies Lissa told us about yesterday!

Best part of this menu? I Fixed Spaghetti Today! How's that for a menu and sticking with it?

I'm linking up over here cuz I love them!!

It's Been Awhile....

Here I am again with a few minutes to spend on the computer. I just finished working out with the New Rules of Lifting for Women and I'm finding it a nice change. I have always hated working out with weights and I've always avoided it like the plague!

But...I'm finding that sometimes I need to push myself out of my comfort zone and this is one of them. I am lifting weights at home 3 times a week following the plan set forth in the book. It's challenging and I'm having to improvise some since I don't have weight machines but I am getting a good challenging workout every time.

I'm also doing the #6Pack March workout that is going on over at the Sisterhood. It's like the #FabAb February workout I was doing in February till I got sick and gave up on it. I finished day 9 today and I'm not gonna lie, it was hard to do it all but that's ok to push myself, right?

I've also decided that it is time to make some drastic changes in my diet so this coming week I am going to make a MENU Plan and FOLLOW IT! That's right....I'm going to write out a menu and I'm going to follow it. On my menu? Lots of fruits and veggies and lean meats and a few whole grains and not much else. I need to break through this plateau I have been on far too long.

I'm also going to add in some cardio which I haven't been doing in some time. That should help me too.

On a totally different note, I'm gonna brag a little on My Marine! He has been at his Military Operations School (meaning he is learning his job for the Marines) since the 28th of February and today he sent me a text saying he is number 1 in his "detachment" with a score of 98.45%!! He is training for Combat Photography which according to what I understand is a very cool job in the military. He also received a promotion last Thursday. He is now a Private First Class and if he graduates at the top of his class he will receive another promotion in June. I'm so proud of him! He has finally found something he loves and is excelling at it!

Ok...it's late and I have a full day of lesson plans to tackle tomorrow so I need to get to bed. Just wanted to spend a few minutes chatting with anyone listening. Btw, thanks for all the nice comments a couple of weeks ago when I was so down about my blog. It really is nice to know someone is out there reading! Thanks y'all!

Have a great weekend....

An Assignment for Your Kids

Yesterday, christieO asked us to have our kids write a "shopping list". Basically we were supposed to ask our kids to write a list of things we might bring home from a typical grocery trip. I thought it sounded like a great experiment and so I "assigned" it to That Other Kid as we were driving to his science class.I asked him to list 10 things I might bring home from the grocery store. His spelling, although not terrible for a early 2nd grade 8 year old boy, should not be held against him! This wasn't a spelling lesson!

The following is his list (unedited) and is a pretty accurate list of what would be brought home. Sadly what this list told me is that I buy less veggies than I should and a whole lot more soda and chips than I should!

Milk bananan Appel chips sodu eggs baken clif.

Bred chicken.

The "clif" that he is talking about are Kidz Clif bars - organic and good for him! He loves them and eats one nearly every day for his breakfast!
I found it interesting that he wrote down both eggs and milk although he is allergic to both he still knows they are staples in our families grocery list!
I also see that I need to teach him about the use of commas!

So, your assignment? Have your kids write a list of foods you would bring home and evaluate it. If you do this please let me know what they write down! I'm curious, and nosey!

After The SuperBowl Confessions

It's Tuesday and over at the Sisterhood we do True Confessions to cleanse our souls of all the crappy stuff from the past week.

Wow do I have a list for you! Here goes....

I started a "no coke" challenge with one of my 3 Day walker friends. She drank Dr. Pepper and I drank coke. We both want to stop...I did great until last Friday, since then I have been TERRIBLE having a coke every day! Until today when I realized how stupid I have been! If I want to stop doing something I just need to STOP!! It really should be that simple...It's called WILLPOWER!! So once again no cokes for me - let's hope I can get it to stick this time!

I went to the grocery store on Sunday (I know, stupid!) when I was hungry! (double stupid!) I bought a bunch of "snacky" things and a bunch of good foods. I bought the ingredients to make the zucchini chocolate muffins and haven't made them yet. I also bought the ingredients (and made) Lisa's salsa! It was a hit in our household! In order to eat salsa you have to eat chips, right?! I ate chips with rotel and salsa during the superbowl....and drank a coke! I also bought and made (and ate) little smokies but I bought the beef ones and only ate 4 with crescent rolls! Yummy!

I started doing the #FabAb workout with Nancy and Bari! It's nice to have accountability with others to do this workout! It's HARD but I need to work my abs big time and this is definitely doing that!

You can join us if you want....I guarantee you won't be sorry! We are all gonna have great looking abs at the end of February!

I have gone over my calorie count on My Fitness Pal for the past few days. It's frustrating but I know I need to work through it and get it figured out. I need to start working harder at keeping my food under control! It will help a lot to stay away from the cokes! Here's to a new start!

Did you read my post Saturday? If not, you really need to. I need to report back that since Saturday I have started focusing more on the exercise and less on the "diet". Today at lunch I decided I wanted a salad! That Other Kid saw me fixing a salad and said, "why are you eating a salad? You said you weren't on a diet anymore!" I told him, "I just want a salad...it's a good choice for lunch!" He seemed to like that idea. I thought it was a great way to change the focus from diet to healthy living/eating. Yay!

First Confession for 2012

True Confessions

Today is Tuesday and over at the Sisterhood that is when we confess the good, the bad and the ugly! Sooooooo here are my confessions for the first Tuesday of 2012.

Late last week I decided I was going to make 2012 my year of finally meeting my weight loss goals and not just talking about meeting my weight loss goals! I looked at what I would need to do to meet my goals and started formulating a plan. Almost 3 years ago when I started my journey of losing weight I weighed 226.8 pounds and the doctor told me some key things to do to lose weight and get my health under control.
Sunday morning I weighed 205.0 pounds....so I guess I can say I have lost and maintained 21 pounds but that's not the 75 pounds I should have lost and maintained by now!

The first thing he told me to do was EXERCISE! Simple enough - exercise at least 30 minutes a day to get a decent sweat and the heart rate up! (If I would have consistently done this 3 years ago I wouldn't be sitting here telling you how I need to lose weight still!) I started with Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred then and I didn't die 3 years ago, so I knew it would be a good place to start 2012 with!

I have been so inactive the past couple of months that I knew I would be basically starting over and let me tell you, Jillian is kicking my butt! In a good way of course! My muscles hurt and are screaming but I know it will work.
I also wanted to add in some additional abdominal work, so I found a nice short ab workout on Netflix Instant. It is off the 10 minute Toning for Beginners and I'm just doing the ab portion. That gives me a little more than 30 minutes with the warmup/cool down from the Shred and the 10 minutes of ab work!

The second thing he told me to do was to STOP DRINKING SODA! Another no brainer! Soda has no redeeming qualities (except it tastes good!) Again I managed to go 6 weeks without one soda 3 years ago...I can do it again!

So...Saturday evening I drank my last soda of 2011 and my last one for some time. Now in all honesty I know I will drink soda again. BUT....I can't make it my preferred drink. I need to make it a "special treat"! Not something I get when I'm thirsty or because it's "happy hour" at Sonic or because my hubby wants one.
My plan is go the entire month of January and February without soda. I'm determined to not drink ANY for the month of January. We'll see how things are going then! For these first 3 days of January I am having some pretty intense cravings for coke which means I was drinking WAY too much! Having it in the house isn't helping either but my will power is stronger! Right?? I'm doing great on the water challenge that is going on over at the 'hood! I'm supposed to drink 102 ounces a day and I have nailed it on both days so far. I am already at about 45 ounces today so I'm certainly on track for today, but I am spending a lot of time in the bathroom! lol

The third thing the doctor told me to do was to follow a low glycemic index diet plan. He gave me some guidelines and told me to look it up for more specifics so I went home and looked it up BUT I didn't really follow it! It looked too hard, but in reality I was just being stubborn! I didn't want to change my life completely. I still wanted to eat crap food. I still wanted to eat fried foods. I still wanted to eat sugar loaded desserts! So, although I did lose weight (quickly and a significant amount) I wasn't completely committed.

BUT....now that I've decided to really make this change and lose the weight for real I've started following the plan strictly. For the month of January, I have committed to ONLY eat what is on the low glycemic index diet plan. Really it's not that hard...and it's what I already know I need to properly fuel my body. Whole wheat grains, lean meats, moderate amounts of fruit, and lots of veggies. If you are interested in it feel free to use google to find out more about it. I'm a pretty picky eater so I just found the foods that were approved on it and wrote them down on a piece of paper and I'm only fixing foods that are on that list. 'Lissa told me last night it sounded a lot like South Beach Phase 2. I've followed the plan before and had great results...I just didn't stick with it long enough.

Ok...so now that y'all know what I'm doing I will tell you I am really struggling with getting myself together. I have been exercising shortly after I get up (which is hard enough for me!). Then I have been sitting down to record everything and eat some breakfast, and I have ended up sitting at the computer for at least an hour! That's gotta end. I can't be hitting the shower at noon! I need to be able to start school no later than 10:30. Today we are taking another day off since the kiddo is sick but he won't be sick for the whole year, ya know?! So time management is an area I need to work on!

I'm also having some serious junk food cravings. I know its normal to go through these withdrawals but still! Makes it harder for me that the hubs and kiddo are sick too! But, I know I can do it...it just takes will power and the determination to want it bad enough and I DO!!

I heard this quote about 6 weeks ago on the Biggest Loser and it really spoke to me! I think it's gonna be my mantra for this time in my journey.....

"If you believe you can achieve!"

It's A New Year - 2012

It's a new year and I'm ready to make the most of it! The Sisterhood wants us to start it off right so they are offering a great new challenge to start 2012 off with a bang!

Shrink Yo' Self in 2012

I'm excited and ready to see what I can do when I pour myself into it 100% and that's exactly what I'm planning to do! In fact I already started, by getting up this morning and changing clothes, putting my contacts in and EXERCISING! Yes, that's right I've decided that I need to exercise first thing in the morning so I have no excuses to NOT do it!

For the month of January I have decided to do Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred! Yes, I know January has 31 days but I figure I can start February a day early since it only has 29 days in it! Since Jillian's workout is only about 20 minutes (plus about 4 minutes of warmup and cool down I decided to some sort of ab workout to bring my minumum total of workout to 30 minutes. Today I pulled up Netflix's Target Toning and I did the 10 minute Ab workout. Normally I would say that this workout would not be a good enough workout for me but after Jillian it was enough! I feel like I'm starting over with my fitness and this was a great start!

As for my starting weight for this challenge: Sadly it was 205.0 and honestly I was surprised it wasn't more. Over the past couple of months I have basically not had any exercise and I have been eating and drinking way more than I know I should! This challenge lasts 8 weeks and goes till the end of February. That gives us plenty of time to make some good changes and a great start to meeting our goals for 2012!

At the end March of 2009 I started my journey of weight loss and I weighed in at 226.8, so over the course of 2 years and 9 months I have lost and maintained a loss of 21 pounds. For that I am happy. For that I am grateful. BUT I really want and NEED to get the rest of this weight off. It's for my health! It's for my sons! It's something I need to do for ME! So here I am again at the beginning of a new year saying one of my goals for the year is to lose weight. I really believe that if I follow the Low Glycemic Index Diet Plan (that the doctor told me to follow nearly 3 years ago) I will meet my goal of 150 - 155 pounds by the time my birthday shows up on the calendar in late July.

So...how will I ensure that I follow the diet and exercise plan I KNOW will work for me? I will hold myself accountable. I will beg my friends to help me! I will make sure that I don't buy junk that I will be tempted to eat! I will focus on the things that help me do what I know I need to do. I will also make sure I exercise EARLY in the day so that I'm not "too tired" to exercise! Just an excuse really since I don't EVER go to bed early but it was an excuse I used for the past couple of months!

So...my goals for the month of January?

** Workout with Jillian every morning as well as an additional 10 minutes of ab work! (My abs will thank me!) for a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise a day.
** Follow along with the challenges that the Sisterhood throws out there!
** Follow along with the "small changes" that Christy will share with us on the 'hood!
** Follow the Low Glycemic Index Diet Plan! If it's not on the plan it's not going into my mouth this month! (I'm not planning to be this strict the whole year but I really think my body needs some "detoxing" and this is a great way to do it!)
** Weigh in at the end of January at 195!

If I do everything I have set out to do I know I can meet this goal! Yes, it will be challenging. Yes, it will be hard. Yes, I'm gonna need my friends to help me out sometimes. BUT....I know in my head and heart that I am worth the effort!

So are you participating in the new challenge? It's gonna rock!! Let me know what your hopes and dreams are for the new year so I can encourage and help you meet them!

Happy New Year friends!

Thankfulness and Confessions

I'm going to take this opportunity to say thank you to whoever created the massage industry! Yesterday I was sore from my weekend (can't imagine why though) and so I decided a massage would be a good idea. Tried getting into 5 different places yesterday with no luck but got in this morning at 9:30 and I'm so glad I did! I feel like a whole different woman!

Now....onto the confessions portion of this blog post.

Mel posted her confessions this morning telling us about how she has been struggling! I have to say it again...I am too!

During all the training for the Komen 3 Day I felt confident that I would lose weight and hit goal weight before the actual walk. Instead I weigh pretty much the same as I did this summer when I first started training for the walk. Late last night and this morning I was looking at some of the pictures from this weekend and there were a couple of them that I literally felt sick about! Here I am walking 60 miles and doing all this training to prepare for it and I'm still sitting around the 200 pound mark! Unbelievable!

I'm sick of being in this weight range. I want to be sitting at my goal weight. I want to go see my son at Camp Pendleton, San Diego and not feel fat, frumpy and out of shape. But we are only about 6 weeks away from that time and I don't see how I can lose 20 or 30 pounds in that time (in a healthy way). I'm so frustrated with myself. I know he won't care how I look. He will just be happy to have a couple of weeks of freedom..it's all about how I feel about my appearance. It's all about disappointing myself and the lack of self-control I have exhibited.

This weekend I did walk 60 miles in 3 days! It was the most exhilarating and empowering experience of my life and I ate the whole time I was walking! I had so much food as I was walking that at "meal times" I wasn't really hungry. That is just pathetic if you ask me. So I'm almost afraid to look at the scale tomorrow morning. But...I will own up to it and accept the number and realize that my self-worth is not defined by the number on the scale or the appearance of my body in a picture (no matter how much my head screams that it is!)

I'm ready to turn a new leaf and get back to the healthy eating and exercise. Now...the million dollar question is, "will I do it?" or "will I continue to make excuses?" Only time will tell, right?

Confessions

It's Tuesday so that means confession time with Shrinking Jeans. This has not been one of my better weeks. Let's go with bullet points to lay it all out, shall we?

* I'm doing training walks for the Komen 3 Day Walk for the Cure on the weekends now. I have to get up at 4:15 am to be ready to walk at 5 am on both Saturday and Sunday! I'm a night owl so this is HARD for me! Once I get going I'm doing fine but the mental aspect of getting up before the sunrise is hard on me.

* I walked almost 16 miles this weekend and I got blisters on the BALLS of my feet! This is WITH the new shoes and new socks that were supposed to prevent issues with my feet!

* Yesterday I could barely walk, my feet were so sore! On top of that I was exhausted because Sunday night I got less than 4 hours of sleep....after having only got 4 or 5 each night of the weekend! Last night I crashed at 10:30 and I crashed HARD!! The only reason I stayed up that long was because I wanted to spend some time foam rolling my legs and soaking my feet in Epsom Salts!!

* Today I felt more normal! I'm planning to do my boot camp workout that I had wanted to do last night...it will only be Week 3, Day 3, but I am happy to say that I have been sticking with it and doing them...that is a good thing in my opinion!

* I'm doing well with my walk training but as I was telling one of the women on my training walk the fundraising for the Komen 3 Day is what is scary to me! She reminded me that we still have 3 1/2 months so just do what I can to get the word out and the money will come in!

* Since I started these training walks I have been STARVING!! From what a lot of you have said this is normal but I really don't feel like I can afford to eat that many calories! I'm supposed to be losing weight!! I have goals, people!!

* This is birthday week -- my oldest son turned 21 Sunday and my birthday is tomorrow, so this week has been less than stellar in the food department! I celebrated Sunday with dinner out, we went out tonight for his birthday and some friends are taking me out tomorrow night, so I've been eating ALOT of food this week, although I did use a lot of calories this weekend, I'm still behind on my calories spent category! That isn't good!! Having my child turn 21 has been rather emotional for me! Realizing that he is really a GROWN UP is hard for me!! I think not having him home to really celebrate was harder, too!

* Earlier today I got another blow from him....he WAS scheduled to leave for Marine bootcamp on September 19th, but today he got a call from his recruiter telling him that if he passes the physical test on Friday morning (where he has to run 1.5 miles in 13 minutes, do 3 pull ups, and a bunch (I can't remember how many) of situps in a minute then he leaves AUGUST 8th!! I'm not worried about him passing this part of the training so that means he's off sooner than I am prepared for! AGH!! That's less than 2 weeks away!!

* I was ready for September but August....that's too stinkin' soon!! I may need therapy! and lots of HUGS!! I may even need booze and I DONT DRINK!!

I guess that's all...I'm sure theres more but I need to go so I can #Tworkout some before bootcamp!!

Confessions of a Tired Momma

True Confessions

I had a pretty good week as far as staying on track with the food and exercise UNTIL Sunday night and Monday!

That Other Kid went to sleep surprisingly easy Sunday night (which should have been my first clue that he didn't feel well!) and I went out to relax for a few minutes and then I was about to exercise when everything went down hill! That Other Kid woke up vomiting and burning with fever about 10 p.m. It continued all through the night. Meaning momma didn't get much sleep...cuz it's hard to sleep when your child is vomiting every hour and burning with fever and doesn't want to leave your side, ya know??! I probably got an hour or 2 of sleep Sunday night. I took him to the dr Monday morning and he has a stomach bug that apparently is going around here...let me tell ya it sucks to have your child vomiting and dry heaving water cuz he doesn't have anything in his stomach!! I'm so ready for him to be over this!

I did sleep last night!! Really deep, so deep in fact that he came and got in bed with me and I didn't know it till he started coughing and vomiting!! Fortunately it was short lived and he went back to his own bed and slept through the night! Today the fever doesn't seem to be as high and he has moved out to the living room couch to lay on! He has confiscated my IPhone to play games on he hasn't vomited since early this morning so maybe just maybe he is getting better!!

Ok...so on to the REALLY BAD part of this confession...see this list of foods and calories?? This is what I ate yesterday!!

Dannon Greek Yogurt, Plain 80 calories
Braeburn Apple 80 calories
Almonds, raw (16 almonds) 80 calories
McDonald's Small French Fries 230 calories
McDonald's Large Coke 310 calories
Coca-Cola Can Of Coke Classic 140 calories
Lay's LAY'S Classic Potato Chips 450 calories
Jif Peanut Butter 190 calories
Mrs.bairds 100% Whole Wheat Bread 120 calories
Lay's LAY'S Classic Potato Chips 150 calories
Taco Cabana Chicken Fajita Nachos 1,200 calories
McDonald's Large Coke 310 calories
Totals: 3,340 calories w/an anstounding 163 g of fat!!

Do you see that total for the day?? That is MORE THAN TWICE what I am supposed to have in one day!! Did you see those fat grams?? That is just a sickening number of fat grams!! Did you notice all those COKES I drank?? and yesterday was the first day in probably a year or more that I haven't had even 64 ounces of water in one day!!

This makes me sick to my stomach....how could I have treated my body so badly? I know....I just didn't care what I ate and I was too tired to really care!

So...I'm moving forward and back to my normal healthy eating today. I'm rested and I'm ready to tackle this stomach flu that That Other Kid has and not treat my self with such disregard!!

Hope ya'll are healthy and enjoying your summer!! Do you have confessions?? If you do feel free to confess here and over at the Sisterhood of Shrinking Jeans! You'll feel better and you'll get plenty of support to get back on track!

Confessions Time

It is confession time over at the Sisterhood so here I am!

It hasn't been that bad of a week but I did sit around WAAAAYYYY too much this weekend watching the twitter stream of all my friends that were at FitBloggin. It was rainy, hot and humid this weekend so I didn't really feel like venturing outside much so I just sat around on my computer!! Not a very good way to show my support of my friends but it is what it is, huh??

As far as eating goes this week I have been doing good.

I did bake a batch of brownies the other night for the guys and I just couldn't stay away from them. In fact I ate more of them than they did! They thought they tasted funny! Apparently I didn't cuz I managed to devour them! I used Olive Oil and my hubby thinks that messed up the taste of them! I did track each and every brownie in MyDailyPlate though so I knew just what they were costing me. I still stayed within a reasonable limit of calories so that I was able to burn the calories with exercise, so I'm happy about that!

I have had a nice big salad every night with dinner so I've been getting my fruits and veggies in. Drinking plenty of water doesn't seem to problem for me so that is good!! I've been looking at myself in the mirror every day and finding something good to say about myself. I have been writing them down too so tomorrow I will give you a full report on my weigh in post!

All in all it's been a good week and I'm looking forward to getting on the scale tomorrow to see how the numbers are looking!

So what do you have to confess?? Go ahead and get it off your conscience! You'll feel better!

Confessions of A Former Ice Cream Junkie!!

Today is confession day at the Sisterhood and I'm happy to report that its been a good week for me.

Note the title of this post?? I have been passing up ice cream now for the past week!! This is big people, big I tell ya! I am a huge fan of ice cream...it doesn't matter if it is fancy Haagen Daz ice cream or cheap McDonalds ice cream...I love it ALL! But I have been turning down opportunities for ice cream ALL WEEK LONG!! And last night over at the 'hood during SisterChat someone started talking about Fried Ice Cream and I didn't even have the intense need to go get ice cream last night!! How cool is that?? I had an opportunity to get ice cream again last night and I passed on it...and ate a banana instead! I think following this Low Glycemic Index Plan is really helping me take that intense need for sugary snacks away!

Tracking calories in My Daily Plate/Livestrong is really helping too because I can see right there in front of me how many calories I have eaten and how many calories I can eat if I want a snack after dinner!

I've done great on my fruits and veggies this week thanks to the push from the Sisterhood to eat 5 servings!! I am happy to report I have had my 5 servings every day! It's been great and I can't wait to see how it has helped me on the scale tomorrow morning!

That Other Kid and I went to a local nature preserve on Sunday afternoon and it was so nice to get outside and enjoy nature for a while!! We will be doing that again...Who would have thought in the middle of all this concrete and buildings there would be a nature preserve just 15 minutes from my house??

Hope ya'll are having a great week!!

Thanksgiving Confessions....

Time for Confession time again over at the Sisterhood. I knew that this week would be somewhat of a challenge, but I had no idea I would go this crazy with the food...

Here are my confessions:

I love to bake...and I baked ALOT over the past week...unfortunately I ATE MOST of what I BAKED! Apple pie, pumpkin pie, banana bread, oatmeal cookies, chocolate chip cookies...and that's just the desserts! As far as the meal I did fine with that and didn't even eat a million dinner rolls like I usually do...it was the "after dinner" that I failed at!

Since I had done so miserable with the desserts and baked goods on Thursday I figured the rest of the weekend was going to be miserable with digestive issues and just didn't watch what I ate at all....way too many desserts (gotta get them out of the house, ya know??!!)

Then I just threw caution to the wind on Sunday and ate a cinnamon roll for breakfast, some banana bread and a soda for lunch and a cheeseburger, fries, coke, and Butterfinger Shake for dinner. I figured the weekend was a bust on the eating so I was at least going to end it with a shake! But...the good news is I have eaten well yesterday and today!!

My hubby asked me if I was gonna confess these transgressions to my "peeps" and I told him, "yes I needed to make sure everyone knows that I am weak!!" I thought it was funny that he was asking me about this!!

I got my EaSports Active 2 game from Mr. UPS yesterday and That Other Kid wanted to play it before me...I wouldn't let him! I wanted to play it first and I did!! It was great, btw! But he was up first thing this morning wanting to play it! He's played it twice today and he got his heart rate up WAY higher than I did last night...I guess I need to work harder! lol

I got the "junk" out of the house and I am back on track for eating right and I have been guzzling water so I am hoping I don't have a major gain tomorrow morning! Glad Thanksgiving only comes once a year!!

Healthy Food Choices Make A Difference

This month is The Taste Of Sisterhood month over at the Sisterhood of Shrinking Jeans and I was asked to show/talk about a meal that I love.

Well it's nothing fancy and it's nothing special but it is what I eat nearly every morning for breakfast! The fact that I just said I "eat it nearly every morning" is a major change for me in my healthy eating journey of weight loss. I used to HATE eating breakfast and NEVER felt "hungry" at breakfast so I wouldn't eat it. But NOW I eat breakfast every day (and on those days I can't eat my "normal" breakfast I grab something to eat in the car or on the go....BIG change for me!!

Anyway, without further ado here is my breakfast of choice --

No Fat Plain Greek Yogurt with a diced apple and almonds!! YUM!! and with a decent sized apple and 20 raw almonds it is only 323 calories which is (according to my calorie count) just about right for breakfast!

It is filling and good for me! On those days I just don't have time to eat this for breakfast I grab a banana and a Fiber One bar and within about 1 hour I am hungry again. When I eat my yogurt breakfast I am not hungry for around 3 hours (ie lunch time)!! Love that!!

The Monday Project

For the Monday Project this month we are supposed to cook one thing that the ladies/gent featured and talk about it. That one was pretty easy for me because as soon I saw Ryan's sausage/egg omlete I knew I was going to make it as long as I could find the 2 main ingredients. That turned out to be an easy task, too since they were both at the local grocery store I shop at all the time...in fact I was there 3 times in 2 days this weekend! lol Although I did make a couple of substitutions -- like no salsa and "spicy italian" instead of "habanero" (which my grocery store didn't carry) I think it was a pretty successful healthy breakfast for my dh...I gave him a piece of whole wheat toast too!!

My eggs didn't turn out as nice looking as Ryan's did this morning because he forgot to mention in his instructions to make sure to use LOTS of cooking spray before you put those sausages in the pan!! My husband said the sausage was great and made the plain, boring egg whites edible!!

So there you have it...breakfast for the adults in this household today!!

Quick Update

I didn't have time to check in while I was at home today so I'm trying to post from my phone. A little tricky but I want to tell ya'll how excited I am to be joining in with the new challenges over at the Sisterhood. I obviously need this because when I got on the scale this morning I was very disappointed with the numbers showing up there. 205.0 I thought about sittin there in my underwear and crying but quickly realized what I really needed to do is get my workout clothes on and start the 30 Day Shred with all my sisters. and I am happy to report that is exactly what I did! i did pretty well with it only struggling with the cardio aspect of the workout. Maybe I will be able keep up with Natalie soon!
I am part of Team Q and we are going to have a great time getting to know each other and helping to meet our goals for this month. My personal goal for this month-do all 30 days of the Shred, continue with my C25K training and get rid of 10 pounds FOR GOOD!
I started taking measures to eat right today by packing yogurt, cheese and fruit for my work lunch. At home today I fixed grilled burgers (our usual Sunday lunch) and fixed some oven fries. I stuck with a small serving of fries and ate a whole wheat bun with my burger. I did indulge in a coke because eating a burger and drinking water just seems wrong! lol
I better stop now so I can get this posted before my lunch break is over. Gotta do some shopping during my last break which will keep me from eating just to eat!
Hope you meet your goals this week!

New Years Confession

The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans True Confessions

The Sisters have changed the schedule for this new year. Tuesdays are now confession day. I guess that gives us an extra day to decide if we are going to truly confess from the weekend or just "let it slide" and then ask how we gained weight on Wednesdays! They also created this cool button and I think it fits pretty well. (No Bull-sh** allowed!! -- my 6 year old just asked me why no bulls were allowed (I told him cuz they were BAD!) and I added the extra letters!!!)) Confession is good for the soul, but it is usually because of EVIL/SIN that we NEED to confess, so good job ladies on the cool and new button for Confession Tuesday!

Here are my confessions for the week:

1) I have been craving and eating A LOT OF CHOCOLATE the past few days -- basically since New Years! I'm sure it's because of hormones and stress, but that's not really a good excuse. I HAVE TO STOP or I WILL NOT MEET MY GOALS!!

2) I have been countering all the chocolate with fruit...I have been getting my 5 servings of fruits/veggies every day. Although, yesterday it seemed to be a real struggle.

3) I finished the 6 week challenge on the Wii EA Sports More Active this weekend and it felt GREAT!!

4) I took the next night off and watched a movie (Julie and Julia) and enjoyed myself thoroughly.

5) I started working out with Jillian Micheals Ultimate Workout (Wii) last night and my muscles.still.hurt!! I start on The Resolutions (1 month workout) tonight and I'm kind of scared! She kept telling me I wasn't working hard enough last night...what's she going to say tonight, when I am already sore??!!

6) I have the Biggest Loser tv show (new season) set up on DVR for tonight. I'm looking forward to working out then watching the show afterwards! What better motivator than 2 sessions of JILLIAN to keep me moving???!!

7) I'm looking forward to tomorrow -- I start the Game On Diet again with my friends and we weigh in for the Sisterhood. This will keep me from eating a lot of junk -- cuz I don't want to let my friends down again and I want to meet my 7 week goal of losing 10 pounds!

NO MORE CHOCOLATE --- LOTS OF FRUITS/VEGGIES!!

What are your confessions??

I'm So EXCITED!!!

On March 25th of this year -- so approximately 8 months ago -- I went to the Endocronologist for a check up. I started seeing him last fall for various issues that I knew needed to be "fixed". He started treating me for all of these issues one step at a time. First Sleep Apnea, second Thyroid meds needed changed up, thirdly Vitamin D needed increased. All along he told me "You really need to start losing weight. What can I do to assist you?" My response was, "I will take care of it. I know what to do." He said, ok....do it.

I left the doctors office vowing to "change my eating habits, exercise more and basically, 'take care of it'." I didn't do anything about it except occasionally exercise. One day I found a website via Beth . It was a new website designed to help women (and men) on their journey to weight loss. I went over to it cuz I thought the name was catchy and I thought "what the heck". What was the website you might ask? The Sisterhood of Shrinking Jeans -- See catchy right? Ever since then I have been a faithful reader and follower of this site, but until March 25 I didn't really do much with it.

On March 25th I went to the doctor and he told me, "Ann, do you want to become diabetic?" My response was, "UH...no! Who wants to be a diabetic?" His response, "Well no one really wants it, but if you don't become serious about losing this weight that is where you will be."

HELLO!! I did not want to be a diabetic at 43 or 44 years old....so I left the office, went to the nearest QT and bought myself a 32 ounce coke, drank it in the 30 minutes it took me to get home and then wowed right then and there that "I will get this weight off - no matter what." That was the last coke I had for nearly 2 months. It was my vice! It was how I got through each and every day. It was my "drug" of choice.

On March 25th I weighed in at 226.8 pounds at the doctor's office. I decided that I would get serious with the Sisterhood that day too, because these ladies were a great support system for me. On March 30 they started a new Challenge. It was a WiiFit Hula Challenge. I did a weigh in that morning, and weighed 225.8 so that was my starting weight for "getting serious". *See stopping those cokes allowed me to lose 1 pound in just 4 days...that really told me something!! I started doing the Hula with the girls and at first I was PATHETIC, but I persisted. I started off only being able to do 2 or 3 and by the end of the week was doing pretty decent. I thought wow this is fun! I'm having fun and "Look at me I'm losing weight!"

Every day I went on the website and commented on how I had done. Every day I got the same response from the girls. "You are doing GREAT", "Keep up the good work"! Wow!! That was a great motivator for me. Someone who just said, "Good Job" "Keep at it"!! It was just what the doctor ordered -- me exercising and losing weight! I kept at it every night. And before I knew it I was really losing weight. In 6 weeks time I had lost a decent amount of weight and I knew if I kept at it I would keep losing.

I continued to check in daily with the Sisterhood and continued to get the support I was finding necessary to keep me going. Knowing that I had a small boy at home depending on me for sooooooo many things didn't hurt either. I knew that if I didn't take care of myself, I wouldn't be able to take care of him.

All through this summer and early fall I continued to lose weight when it seemed I had hit a plateau. I had done well and had even hit that all important weight of 200!! but I was pretty much fluctuating from 198 to 202, depending on the time of month. I was beginning to get frustrated with myself and beginning to feel like I would NEVER get this weight off. I have so much to lose, what is my problem, etc., etc. I'm sure you have had these thoughts, too. Am I right???

Fast forward to a few weeks ago when a group of homeschooling moms told me about this great diet/healthy living book they were reading. It was changing the way they thought about food and they were seeing results with the little bit they were doing with it. They asked me to join in and I thought, "No, I am too busy. I am getting ready to move, I don't have time to do anything else." But one of my friends is VERY PERSISTENT (and I love her for it!!) and she said, "Come on, try it with us. It'll be GREAT!!" So I listened to her talk about it and said, "Sure, why not. What can it hurt, right?" I went to the start up meeting and started getting excited about it. I went to the bookstore that night and bought the book. I started reading it immediately and we joined teams and got started. We started last Monday, the 9th and we are going 6 weeks instead of the suggested 4 weeks. We want to see the results we can have in just 6 weeks time!

Let me tell you this has had a tremendous boost to my metabolism and I have finally knocked my plateau right out of the water! On Monday the 9th my weigh in was 197.8. Two days later, on Wednesday I had lost nearly a pound and a half to 196.2. That was last week...and

Today I am happy to report my weigh in was 195.4!!!!

Yes!! That means I have officially lost 30.4 pounds with the support of the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans!! And I am Shrinking my Jeans!! I was wearing a tight size 18 8 months ago. Now I am wearing a sort of snug 14 and I expect by the time by 6 weeks are done with this Game On Diet I will either wearing a 12 or a very loose 14. I am excited! It is exactly what the "doctor" ordered! I am losing weight and I am having fun while I am doing it!!

CAN YOU TELL I AM EXCITED?????!!!!!

Let me tell you .... if you are trying to do anything and you are struggling with it GET A SUPPORT SYSTEM in place!! Your success could depend on it! Mine did and still does!! Thanks from the bottom of my heart everyone!!

WeighIn Week 6 - Shrink For Good Challenge

I don't seem to be "getting this" Shrink for Good means SHRINKING not gaining weight every other week, right?? I went to the gym this morning - even before eating and jumped on the scales. I wasn't expecting much; exercising has been pretty sporatic and I've had some rough bouts with "gotta have chocolate!" So as I said I really didn't much...soooo

Today's weigh in -- 198.8
Last week's weigh in -- 197.7

So that's up 1 pound 1 ounce this week! I'm bummed but not surprised. This week will be better. I have a game plan. I'm going to be exercising for 40 MINUTES so that will definitely be a step in the right direction. DH suggested I start food journaling again so I'm going to start that. Anyone know of a good FREE site?? Thanks...

Overall I have gone from 199.9 up to 202.10 then back down to 198.8 so I've really only lost 1 pound 1 ounce, but since I went up to 202.10 I will be donating food for those pounds too! I'm really going to try to get down to 195 by the end of this challenge, so I can donate 6 pounds of food and I can be down 30 pounds in 6 months!!

Bad Night

Yesterday started out as a typical (for now) Friday. Got up at 5:30 a.m. fixed dh breakfast, cleaned up a bit, took dh to the office he's working at, stopped at dry cleaners, came home, fell back to sleep with That Other Kid for about a hour and a half. When we got up about 9 a.m. I did my usual stuff. You know, check emails, check bank account, check favorite blogs and websites, showered and ate breakfast. I also started laundry, and all those exciting types of things.

We had a scheduled field trip at a nearby Nature Preserve where That other Kid learned all kinds of interesting facts about insects. They even took a short hike to look and try to catch insects. He actually caught a grasshopper, but before I could get the camera ready the grasshopper escaped from the net...bummer!

After leaving the Nature Preserve we ran to the grocery store for a quick, "we gotta have these things" run. Those trips are always fun with a 5 1/2 year old, don't you think?! Immediately after dropping the groceries off, we went to HOCKEY PRACTICE!! Going to hockey practice was the highlight of the day for That Other Kid, since he hasn't been on the ice in about a month! He could hardly wait to leave for practice! That Kid is home from college this week because of "fall break" (yeah for fall break!!) so he tagged along to watch practice. After practice we went and picked dh up from the office and went home.

I got That Other Kid ready for bed and was ready to CRASH and CRASH hard. I got dh situated for bed (he goes to bed really early now that he gets up at 5 a.m.) and I went to the living room to exercise. Here comes the really BAD part!!

By this time it is 10:30p.m. and I just didn't have it in me to exercise and I was HUNGRY!! Can you guess what happened here?? Oh come on...take a wild guess...I know you want to....

Any guesses??

Ok, I'll just tell you...I SAT ON THE COUCH AND ATE HALF A BAG OF CHIPS AND VEGGED OUT WITH MY COMPUTER till 11:45 p.m.!! Yes, that's right instead of going to bed at 10:30 like I could have (and should have) I sat in the dark living room by myself and ATE a BIG BAG OF CHIPS for an HOUR!!

Ok...so now that's over...You are supposed to confess your sins, right??!! So I've done that and today is a new day. I'm going to make the most of it...I have a big pile of laundry to fold and put away and I need to run to Wally world to pick up some toiletry items. I also need to load the dishwasher and start going through some of our stuff to try to sell in our garage sale that I'm going to have in a couple of weeks. No time to waste and certainly no time to sit around here feeling like a failure for last night -- not that I ever would do a goofy thing like that, ya know?

Hope ya'll have a good weekend!!!!

Back on Track

21 Days with the Sisterhood!

I'm beginning to get back on track now that I have had my "blah week". I'm trying real hard to eat better and I started exercising again with a vengeance. I did just over an hour Sunday night and last night. My muscles are protesting but I already feel better physically and mentally. I am using the "Biggest Loser Body Sculpt" DVD and my WiiFit Hula and Yoga. I am on level 2 of the DVD and it goes through 40 minutes of intense exercise. Level 3 will be 50 minutes so I'm going to give myself an extra week to build up to before I start that level, which I was scheduled to start on next Monday.

A new challenge starts today over at the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans . This go around is only 21 days (3 weeks) and we are trying to establish new habits and break old, bad ones. I think I finally have the "no exercise" habit broken. The days last week that I didn't exercise, I felt physically and mentally bad. I feel GOOD when I exercise! and I love how I can see my body changing and becoming more physically fit!

So what habits am I trying to establish?

How about eating enough fruits and veggies? I am not a fan of veggies, in fact about the only veggie that I can honestly say I really like are carrots and a plain garden salad with lettuce, carrots and a few tomatoes. But I LOVE fruit....I just find it difficult to make myself grab a piece of fruit instead of something like, say bread!

So my new habit -- eat 5 servings of fruits or veggies EVERY DAY!! That means I need to go to the store and buy some, but I do have bananas and apples in the house and I've already had 1 banana today, so I'm off to a decent start.

Another new habit I want to establish is -- getting my day started with reading my BIBLE and having a little bit of prayer time. Usually I get up out of bed, and go lay down on the couch for a couple of hours then fix breakfast for everyone, then shower, eat breakfast myself, then get on the computer for a couple of hours! I want to change this habit. In about a month I am going to start school with That Other Kid (kindergarten - homeschool) and I need to be able to devote at least an hour to hour and a half every day to school. If I don't change something about my morning routine, it's going to be late in the afternoon before we even start and I really don't want that. I want to be able to let him play and burn off energy in the afternoon's and I want to be able to go to the gym and do some cardio during the afternoon.

My third habit to establish over the next 3 weeks -- spend some time outside EVERYDAY! Summer in North Texas is brutal, but being outside is good for me no matter how hot it is, and That Other Kid loves to be outside. This will be a good way for him to burn off some energy and for me to soak in some Vitamin D, which the Endocronologist has told me I need to boost. I figure if I spend 30 minutes outside everyday then I will do both me and my son some good!

So there you have it, 3 things about myself that I AM GOING TO CHANGE over the next 21 days! So I'm off to eat another piece of fruit, read my bible and go outside with That Other Kid....

Edited *** I managed to eat 5 fruits/veggies, read my Bible and spend some time praying, but I didn't make it outside today except to go to the car and back when we went to indoor soccer practice. Oh well 2 out of 3 is better than none, right???!!
